Level of Response
Whenever an alarm goes off, the Hong Kong Police Officers promptly head to the location of the activation. Depending on the situation, multiple officers may spend time investigating what has occurred.
However, if it turns out to be a false alarm, it is seen as time that could have been used more effectively.
To reduce this wastage the Commissioner of Police has introduced a Police Phased Response to Intruder Alarms, as follows:
Level 1: Full Response
Level 2: Reduced Response
Level 3: Limited Response
Level 4: No Response
Alarm installations may be reinstated to a higher level of response if they remain free of false alarms for 90 days. Installation of verification technology at the alarm site will result in being reinstated to the highest level.
In other words, an unhealthy alarm system is not only a waste of money, but also needs to take more risks of theft.
